So, the site was shut down today for copyright violations. It’s back up now that I’ve removed all the music. I guess this means no more WeeklyTRACKS until I find a better solution. (a legal one)

I ran across a demo of Lady Gaga’s Telephone this week, only it wasn’t by Gaga, it was by Britney Spears. Apparently Gaga had written the song for Britney, but it never got released, so Gaga released it herself. I really like the fact that Beyoncé isn’t in this version, but overall I still prefer the original. If you really liked the original, you should watch this video (thanks Daniel for sending that to me).

In other music news, I found out that Madonna song Don’t Tell Me was originally by her brother-in-law. On his album, it’s called Stop. You can give it a listen below.
that’s right, britney, gaga & madonna all in one weeklytracks post. EPIC!
I don’t really have a third song to post today, but, if you’re a LOST fan and want to know who built the statue, I’d recommend listening to this week’s Official Lost Podcast.

That Naomi compilation video may be terrible quality, but that song is just plain infectious! I decided to look it up and it turned out to be from the british rock group The Motors. Here is the song and a few other hits by them.
Check out the fancy new cuouluours!

I never wrote about how awesome Ed Banger’s 7th Anniversary Afterparty was. Well, it was awesome. Just watch the video above. I can’t believe old people actually think this is just “noise”. I feel so sorry for them. This literally went on for five minutes, but don’t worry, he played real music after.
With all the upcoming releases, I feel like March can’t get here soon enough. First there’s Goldfrapp, then She & Him, even Little Boots’s first album Hands gets a US release next month (though I assume most of you have acquired it by ‘other’ means). The Postelles also release their first EP sometime early March, and don’t even get me started on Final Fantasy 13 (or God of War III for that matter). Either way, Boots is kicking off her US album launch tour here in NY on March 2nd, and you bet your ass I’ll be there. Plus, Neon Indian is playing the following week, so March is looking to be pretty awesome.

Here are a few songs that have caught my attention recently. There is no relation between the songs but you’re welcome to try and connect them somehow. The first is from a 60’s Mad Magazine album called “Twist” Rock ‘N’ Roll. The second track has been stuck in my head a lot recently, it’s from the soulful electro pop duo Quadron. Both members were part of the Boom Clap Bachelors. The last song is an epic 11 minute ride based on an opera about Darwin’s Origin of Species. It features vocals by Royksopp’s “This Must Be It” and “Tricky Tricky” singer Fever Ray.

It’s been a great week for music leaks, first we got “Fragile” from Daft Punk’s upcoming Tron Legacy soundtrack, and now I see that two of my favorite girls, Goldfrapp, and Zooey Deschanel are releasing singles for their new albums! Check out “Rocket” from Goldfrapp’s new album Head First, and “In The Sun” from what’s sure to be this summers musical blockbuster She & Him’s Volume Two. Above and below are promotional videos for Danger’s upcoming EP.

QuestionWhat do the songs “Since U Been Gone” and “My Life Would Suck Without You” by Kelly Clarkson, “Girlfriend” by Avril Lavigne, “I Kissed a Girl” and “Hot N Cold” by Katy Perry, “Right Round” by Flo Rida, “TiK ToK” by Kesha, and “Party in the U.S.A.” by Miley Cyrus have in common?

Answer: Aside from all being stuck in my head at some point, they were all produced by Lukasz “Dr. Luke” Gottwald.

It’s no secret that good pop music has been on the decline over the last decade. I have always thought of my middle school years as a golden age of pop, the end of which I mark by the release of Usher’s “Yeah!”, which held the #1 spot on the Billboard charts for a whopping 4(!) months. But there’s a chance that my golden age is still alive. If you look at the work of gifted producers like Dr. Luke and Greg Kurstin, you’ll find that they’re still churning out catchy singles that grab a hold and don’t let go. No doubt, I’ll be keeping a close eye on this year’s Billboard charts, in hopes that catchy pop will reclaim it’s golden throne.

POWER HOUR: MOTOWN

I know I’ve been kind of lazy about updating, so to mark my triumphant return to WeeklyTRACKS, I am pleased to debut WoodyJANG’s first ever POWER HOUR post! Yes, that’s right, 60 1-minute motown tracks for your listening pleasure. (some of which aren’t really motown, but I just couldn’t resist)
This all started one day when I googled “motown powerhour” and got nothing. I was disappointed in google, the internet, and society as a whole. I took my sorrow and funneled it into GarageBand along with all my favorite motown tracks, creating a 2GB hour-long monster of a sequence.

So here it is, complete with some sexy album art starring our best friend helvetica neue. [Option+Click To Download File 58.1 mb]

Hall And Oates
I would have liked to see this artist have a go on Gizmodo’s 3D etch-a-sketch…
I’ve always loved the drums on The Five Stairstep’s one-hit-wonder Ooh Child. After some googling, I found out the drummer for that particular track was Bernard “Pretty” Purdie, apparently the most recorded drummer in history. Most of us have heard him drum on classic tracks like Respect by Aretha, and Cold Sweat by James Brown, but I was a little surprised to find him on less than classic tracks like She’s Gone by Hall and Oates.

Anyways, Purdie and The Five Stairsteps did a cover of Dear Prudence, feel free to check that one out. Plus, new Thao album! I remember hearing this song Body at her last concert, so I’m glad to have the recording.
