Lost: Seasons 1–5
I just watched the first 5 seasons of Lost again, so I feel I’m in a pretty good position to summarize everything that’s happened so far:
Let’s see if I can do this better than Hurley.
Oceanic 815 is a plane flying from Sydney to LA that crashes on an uncharted island somewhere in the pacific. The survivors of the crash soon realize that there are others on the island. The ‘others’ are led by Benjamin Linus, a former member of the Dharma Initiative.
The Dharma Initiative is founded in 1970 by scientists interested in the islands supernatural energy. Sometime in the 1980’s, Ben joins the ‘others’ and initiates a purge against the Dharma Initiative (he kills all of them).
Shortly after the crash, the survivors of 815 begin to witness the islands power. A smoke monster flies around scanning and killing people, and several survivors recover from severe illness: Rose beats cancer, Jin becomes fertile, and Locke walks. Then they find a hatch built by the Dharma Initiative and inside it they meet Desmond, who tells them they need to press a button every 108 minutes to contain a leaking pocket of supernatural energy caused by an incident back in 1975.
They push the button for a while but then Locke decides to stop. The energy builds up and Desmond has to initiate a fail safe mechanism which destroys the hatch and (seemingly) buries the problem.
At the same time, Jack, Kate, and Sawyer get kidnapped by the others and find out that Ben is dying. Jack saves Ben, and they are let free. At some point they find out that the others are actually being led by a godlike figure named Jacob…
Ok Hurley, you win…
Screw it, there’s no way I can explain the rest of the show.
