Dropbox
While I’m on the subject of the cloud, I thought I should mention the web service Dropbox, which offers 2 free gigabytes of online storage that can sync across computers, phones, and pads.

I don’t use it for huge files, but it’s great for working on documents across multiple computers. It’s also good for transferring music, pictures, and short video clips.

If you sign up from this link, they will expand my storage, so don’t be shy! Shameless.

WeeklyTRACKS*5/28

Friday, May 28th, 2010

It’s been a pretty great week for music. New Arcade Fire– always good news. They are releasing a new album in August. The album’s title track, ‘The Suburbs’, is also it’s first single.

Ratatat’s entire LP4 has leaked. Right now my favorite track is ‘Sunblocks’. It sounds pretty much like everything Ratatat has ever done, which isn’t a bad thing.

Lastly, Kanye West plans on releasing a new album this year. I’m not expecting much, given his epic downfall into whatever you call the state he is in right now (suck?). His first single, ‘Power’, actually isn’t too bad. You can give it a listen below. What do you think, is it too late to give Kanye a second chance? Probably.

Side rant:

I think it’s time for iTunes 10. We are moving into the era of the cloud. Google already offers cloud services for the basics (Gmail, Gcals, Gdocs), and a lot of people watch more TV online than on TV (Hulu, Netflix).

But what about music?

There are a few jukebox style streaming services (Grooveshark, Spotify), but most people still prefer to stick with their iTunes library, me included. The problem is, iTunes doesn’t do what it should. I see no reason why iTunes can’t stream my music library to my iPhone or iPad. If AirVideo can stream a 24 gigabyte file of The Fellowship of the Ring, then a few songs should be nothing. I also want iTunes to sync libraries across computers. This wouldn’t be that hard to do over wifi. If I download some songs on my laptop, I shouldn’t have to download them again on my desktop. Google Chrome does an excellent job syncing bookmarks across computers, and it’s time for iTunes to do the same thing for music.

Apparently Google is developing some kind of cloud based music service, but it probably won’t work well with Apple products. Also, I’ve invested so much time into adding album art and lyrics for my 13,398 songs I would hate to have to start over. If my music is moving to the cloud, it’s going to have to be with iTunes. Here’s hoping June’s Stevenote is about more than just the new iPhone.

Harry Potter Covers

Get a load of this! In a recent interview with The London Times, J.K. Rowling revealed that she is working on Volume One of a new Harry Potter series called The Auror. This will surely come as a pleasant surprise to the many fans who thought Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was the last we would hear from Potter and the gang. Goodbye Summer

Friday, March 12th, 2010

I’m finally letting go of “Summer Title” and replacing it with something more permanent. Also, WoodyJANG*com is now officially just WoodyJANG. and yes, you have to emphasize the ‘woody’ when you say it. That’s how I can tell you’re talking about the blog and not me.

I’m trying to think of a way to incorporate that pink back into the new header.…

EarthBirthdayBanner

Seventeenth century scholar James Ussher calculated through precise calculations bible interpretation that the Earth was created in 4004 b.c.

His competitors, after double checking his calculations, were able to determine the exact moment of Earth’s creation: 9 a.m. on October 23rd, 4004 b.c.

That makes Earth 6013 years old today! Happy Birthday Earth! (who cares if they were off by 4.5 billion years or so…)

Contest: Google WAVE Invite

Google Wave

I have one Google WAVE invite left, and I’ve decided it should go to the most poetic geek.
If you’re reading this, then I’ve already invited you, so go away.
The rules are simple: Write a comment with a haiku about something geeky or technology related. The best haiku by the end of the week (12AM Eastern, sunday night) wins the last invite

UPDATE: Okay, Aaron wins. even though he already has one.
