I just watched The Hurt Locker, this year’s best picture. I finally understand what all the fuss was about. Congrats to Kathryn Bigelow for beating her ex-hubby James Cameron at his own game. by game I mean making great films, not money. OBVIOUSLY.
I searched online for a good poster, but couldn’t really find one I liked. This one is pretty good, but a little text-heavy. So I tried to make one myself. It’s not perfect but it’s better than this crap.
In true Oscar tradition, roughly 99% of my picks to win, lost. I really did not expect The Hurt Locker to out-win Avatar six to three, including Best Picture! Guess I should go watch it now… BESTPICTURE: District 9 The Hurt Locker DIRECTING: Quentin Tarantino Kathryn Bigelow ACTORIN A LEADINGROLE:

If you like Miley Cyrus or Taylor Swift, you’ll probably recognize this face:
“Not News Worthy”
This is Lucas Till. Apparently the default guy for country-pop-rock singer girls who have a blonde/brunette schizophrenia problem. As proven below with Miley Cyrus and Taylor swift.
Here’s a new one for ya’ll. It’s called Public Gothic and it comes in 4 styles. I already found the best use for the ‘square vintage’ style, but feel free to be less creative with the other 3. [Gimme] Seriously, if you manage something better, post it in the comments.
I never wrote about how awesome Ed Banger’s 7th Anniversary Afterparty was. Well, it was awesome. Just watch the video above. I can’t believe old people actually think this is just “noise”. I feel so sorry for them. This literally went on for five minutes, but don’t worry, he played real music after.
With all the upcoming releases, I feel like March can’t get here soon enough. First there’s Goldfrapp, then She & Him, even Little Boots’s first album Hands gets a US release next month (though I assume most of you have acquired it by ‘other’ means). The Postelles also release their first EP sometime early March, and don’t even get me started on Final Fantasy 13 (or God of War III for that matter). Either way, Boots is kicking off her US album launch tour here in NY on March 2nd, and you bet your ass I’ll be there. Plus, Neon Indian is playing the following week, so March is looking to be pretty awesome.
Here are a few songs that have caught my attention recently. There is no relation between the songs but you’re welcome to try and connect them somehow. The first is from a 60’s Mad Magazine album called “Twist” Rock ‘N’ Roll. The second track has been stuck in my head a lot recently, it’s from the soulful electro pop duo Quadron. Both members were part of the Boom Clap Bachelors. The last song is an epic 11 minute ride based on an opera about Darwin’s Origin of Species. It features vocals by Royksopp’s “This Must Be It” and “Tricky Tricky” singer Fever Ray.
